Interesting to see another point of view on this one. I found the faux-Water Babies/Victoriana style rather twee and unconvincing; it felt like pastiche, but didn't have the right frame or angle to give it a rescuing edge. The language itself falls prey to what Matt Denault tagged as Valente's typical "lists of bling", or another reviewer labeled 'ungapatchka'. As much as I like some of her images, I usually want to trim out about half the figurative language.
