Out of curiosity, I went and started re-reading. Or tried to. I don't plan to finish.

If anything this review was too kind. The fact that the whole story (inasmuch as there is one) is told as dialog is extremely tiring. The portrayal of Joan and Eunice's inner dialog is, uh, like listening to chopsticks being played over and over. Not that interesting to start with, and gets old quickly.
