Hey, you think this might bode ominously for book five? Only for the foster-home. Think how bad it would have been when Alexandra was in her first year. Then think what she's done since then. It would actually make for a great story - I can totally see them underestimating her because she doesn't have a wand, and then she'd get more in touch with her muggle side and return to using doggerel verse, and boom. Let's face it - the foster house would undergo an epic disaster.
But I really liked this chapter, both in terms of Alexandra's growth and in terms of Lilith's relationship with Alex. I felt it was a very powerful scene, and only over the limit in the sense that it was a key factor in destroying any sort of trust Alexandra had in grown-ups. Alexandra discovered the truth by herself despite all of Lilith's efforts, and Lilith still lies to her. Alexandra is the one telling the truth - and what she gets for her pains (heh) is punishment. That cannot have convinced her to trust adults with the truth.
