Great review! I tried to read "A Casual Vacancy" and I just didn't like the subject matter - while Rowling's deft characterizations and sense of humor were on full display, it was a particularly English and depressing book. However, I'm glad to hear that this particular mystery was more interesting. I think I might pick up a copy for myself! (I was also heartened to hear you wouldn't bother with any of the new American factoids. They're simply awful, and your version was far superior. I love Rowling and her books, and part of me hopes that she writes a proper prequel or a sequal - that isn't an awful play - but not this terrible bullcrap.) Anyways, thanks for reviewing!
