I seem to remember a movie and possibly a book about a similar subject where a retarded man has some sort of procedure to become a genius, then becomes a genius, then the procedure ends up failing and he's back to being retarded, leaving us wondering if it's better to have known genius and not have it than to have never known etc, etc.
