it's *really* interesting that she motivates herself by asking what her father would do in that situation...

lol, i feel like i'm the only person who rides buses who has never had a weird/chatty/annoying seatmate

interesting about the trace being out of range...so i guess territories are like states and don't cooperate with each other on that?

She's really doing this isn't she? I still can't believe she actually ran away. Not that it isn't something she would do, but she really was acting more mature this year and now it's all down the drain.

As soon as she was hitchhiking to Chicago, I recalled your request for comment a few months ago, regarding minors buying Greyhound or airline tickets, and I realized she really was going. Now I see a raven in your Poser illustration, and so I am wondering whether either Hagar or Charlie is really following her.

So is she going to find him, or will Diana Grimm or AT find her first? And if she spots him, will she really call upon the Special Investigator? First, it's not like her, secondly, she has no solid evidence to allow the WJD to convict anyone, unless those skins are really demonstrably human. Of course, Alex doesn't think of such grown up matters, which leads me to an interesting speculation:

Perhaps she will call upon Diana Grimm, and upon hearing she doesn't have enough evidence to arrest him, she will then try something stupid but be rescued by either Abraham Thorn or Quimley. Or, more likely, since we are at the point in the book where she needs a biiig adventure, perhaps she will be captured by John Manuelitto, and will be saved through the Stars Above, but not before getting into quite a pickle lasting several chapters (in fact, by the standards of AQATLB, there would now be three or four chapters describing the landscape and its dangers before she gets to see him), and after saving herself (with help of Quimley?), she gets more help from AT, and eventually delivers JM to the WJD. But will she get credit for that in her wizarding social studies class? hmmm...

Interesting that her trace doesn't carry into another territory.

I'm wondering if the reason Diana Grimm has not responded to anything that has happened, including Bonnie's attack, is that she's already dead?

Is it likely that Alexandra will find this out when she calls her for backup.

Also, my post on the last chapter sucked (I wrote at 5am) but I really like how I recognized John Manuelito's 'style' of black magic matches Navajo stories of such.

On the other hand, did you write this part while watching 'True Grit'?

I'm going to make a guess at what's going to happen later in the book.

Alex finally finds John Manuelito, and confronts him. He's surprised, but not dismayed as she expects, and reacts violently by dueling her with advanced magics the like of which Alex has never seen. He wins the duel, and captures her. At that point, I'm imagining he's either going to use her for some sort of ritual, or he's going to plan to turn her over to the people who he's working for.

Either way, bad stuff ahead for Alex.

COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF SOMEONE HAD SAID THEY WERE SORRY. Just saying.

if Alexandra knows the location of John Manuelito's cabin, you'd think she wouldn't need to go there at all. She could just give the information to her father or Diana Grimm. Which makes me think that she just wants to prove herself and personally enact revenge, like in True Grit.

This chapter went by too quickly for me. I like the underhanded way gertrude swindled Alex, but I think something else is going on with that little trade....and I think daddy Thorn is gonna open a can of whoop ass on Gertrude for trying to cheat his little girl....
But other than that.....
Here's my 2 cents so far...
1./ She'll find and duel JM.
2./ She'll lose...really badly
3./ JM will try something like a ritual with the stars above and Alex will remember the flowers in the Lands Below, and forward the message to the sun...and...well tear some shit up!!!
4./ Somewhere in the melee, she'll escape and offer up JM as a sacrifice so she won't have to die.

ok the last one was kinda morbid and probably won't happen, but hey....it would be nice if something like that happened.

just sayin...
