Honestly, I still think giving her green eyes was a mistake, especially combined with the black hair.
Of course, knowing you, there's a 50/50 chance that the fact Alex has green eyes while her parents' eyes are brown will be of Earth Shattering Significance at some point in the future...
Edit: My fandom story--I was the target age group, started reading the books after the third one came out IIRC, became one of the many many obsessed fans, etc. Feel lucky that you missed the supervolcano that was the sixth book, especially the Interview of Doom. (Like much of fandom, you really had to be there...)
On a similar note, for no real reason, I'll share what remains my personal favorite piece of fandom of all time: this essay. It's one of the many essays written after Book 6 and before Book 7 which argued that Harry was being given love-potion and that's why he suddenly fell into love with Ginny. It differentiates itself in three ways: 1) Arguing that Hermione of all people was the one giving him the love potion; 2) Being the most convincing of the lot; 3) Going into a truly disturbing amount of detail. It is quite possibly the instantiation of everything good and crazy about fandom. Oh, and like all classics, it's way too long.
