What. Just... what. This is just as bad as Save the Pearls. In fact it may be worst, since homosexuality has a packload of religious issues attached to it.

One day somebody should write a novel about an alternate world where all the good writers are unpublished, and dreck like this rules the market. Only it's already happening.

This, "Save the Pearls", "The Glimpse"... wtf is in the water that this crap is being promoted and pretty much readily available for anyone?

That's disgusting. Where the hell is this bizarro, conservative-ish "reverse oppression" BS coming from?

Well, as it turns out, she claims otherwise (http://www.preblebooks.com/apps/blog/reading-beyond-the-surface).

From reading her blog, apparently she is a liberal and a supporter of gay rights.

But this seems very poorly conceived.

Yeah, it is incredibly poorly conceived. But I think I get the sentiment from her blog post that she wants to do a role-reversal thing, but a lot of people will miss the point, especially if it's not well-written. She's essentially demonizing homosexuality by trying to make that experience more accessible to white, straight, upper-middle class readers. *facepalm*

Still, it does remind me of a small-group exercise I participated in during a Gender Studies class I took in college: we had to figure out how society would be structured if homosexual relationships were the default. It turns out many, many facets of society would have to be radically altered for that. One novel can't cover it all without being a gigantic doorstopper.

So I guess all we need now is a novel where women rule the world and men are forced to stay at home and raise kids, and the trilogy will be complete?

I snort in their general direction.

And if they want something 'too controversial for the traditional publishing world', they should try [livejournal.com profile] daily_deviant.

We Do rule the world ;) but dammit he earns the money I spend the money! Don't go messin' that up.

By the way, how is any one the son or daughter of anybody in that f'ed up story?

Sorry, but the rulers of the world are the ones who have to earn the money. It's called noblesse oblige.

And it's actually plausible through advances in technology. We have artificial insemination now obviously; I believe we should have artificial wombs eventually.

Hmmm, eden of the east, I remember that phrase.

I do earn some money I just work very few hours a month since I'm trapped at home taking care of our little heathens.

All the reproductive technology is great but to make that the only means of reproduction is almost as boggling as the rest. If we can find a way to combine genetics so same sex couples could have a child biologically from both parents that would be truly awesome. Maybe someday
