I must admit, your summary (or to be more specific, that of Kenneth Widmerpool and Pamela Flitton) has certainly caught my interest. I may devote my summer this year to making my way through these.
Oh, and when you first described Widmerpool I was like "That's totally Peter Pettigrew," so I do think you're on to something with the whole Harry Potter thing.
