There were also women working for SOE doing codebreaking work to decipher transmissions from agents in the field, since the stressful conditions meant that they were likely to make mistakes in their coding, and anything that couldn't be deciphered had to be re-sent which increased their risk of being caught. "Between Silk and Cyanide" by Leo Marks is an excellent book about the SOE agents and coders.
