It's this kind of story and author that makes me disillusioned with historical fiction in general. The tendency of authors to stereotype historical events and cultural attitudes of the past often makes the story less interesting than reading a history book.
It is extremely rare to encounter a historical fiction that actually manage to portray the complexity of the world in the past.
