I was one of the people who discovered Alexandra Quick after reading HHD -- strangely enough, I can't remember what compelled me to check out HHD, as I for the most part don't like "next generation" fics. (Possibly the fact that it wasn't an Albus/Rose/Scorpius fic helped, because man, did I get tired of those almost immediately...)
I know Alexandra as a character gets a bit of flak from readers, but I think the important thing with her is that she's repeatedly called out on her behavior by the narrative -- I never get the feeling (like I do with a lot of characters in other stories) that her less-than-admirable traits are excused. Explained, yes, but not in such a way that I feel I'm being ordered to pity or admire her in spite or because of those traits. Even if she's not always punished in-story, I think it shines through clearly that you as an author are quite aware of it when she's being horrible. That alone makes her an enjoyable character for me to read about; I like flawed protagonists. At least when they are supposed to be flawed.
