Actually, I very rarely read books that I expect to not like. I picked up Hostile Intent because it looked kind of interesting - I had no idea what it or the author was like before I read it.
I'm happy to provide more book recommendations, though. Since you are obviously a person of discerning judgment and incisive intellect, I can think of no more rewarding book than Night of the Crabs (http://inverarity.livejournal.com/150973.html). And it's got haaaaawt sex scenes too! Roowr!
