One-line review of Silver Linings Playbook:

Yawn.

Silver Linings Playbook

I only watched it for Jennifer Lawrence. And she did a fine acting job, though I'm not sure it was really worth an Oscar.

But this was a really dull movie with a really dull story with really good actors.

Let's face it. Jennifer Lawrence's Oscar was REALLY for her performance in "Winter's Bone". (Just like Natalie Portman's Oscar was REALLY for Darren Aronofsky's directing that got that performance out of her.)

Jennifer Lawrence is always awesome, but "Winter's Bone" really gave her an opportunity to shine. It was a very subtle and nuanced film for an actress who is good at giving a subtle and nuanced performance.

Really? My mother and I enjoyed it a lot. It reminded me of my own struggles with mental illness---the midnight meltdown scene was hard to watch because I've done similar things (though less violently). I will admit that the individual scenes are stronger than the overarching plot.

Have you read the book? When I saw this post, I though it was going to be a review of that, and I got excited. I finished it recently, but the movie is a bit stronger---it meanders less, though the plot is altered to be more movie-ish.
