I've read the first four books of the Night Watch series so far and I just found that it got better and better.
I love how it's essentially a Cold War fantasy novel, with the light and dark sides vying for power while ensuring that balance between both sides is maintained, knowing that a full scale assault on one another would lead to mutually assured destruction.
I like how they captured the world of the novels in that first movie, but nevertheless the movie is a bit of a mess. Considering the sequential format of the stories in the books, a tv series would work better. The second movie completely jumps the shark and I found it to be a massive disappointment. It's now quite upsetting to me how little attention is given to Anton's vampire friend Kostya in the movies considering how important he becomes in the books.
