I was a child that loved reading, but I always dreaded German literature in school - and being Austrian that was in the original, so it probably isn't the translation. (Of course it might be that they threw the stuff at us too early and I'd feel differently about it as an adult, but thanks to school I can't bring myself to touch the stuff and find out.)
