Incidentally, I think there is a difference between lying for attention (apart that I have never known JKR to look for attention anyway) and trying to take one's life work back from a group of people whose opinions oppose yours. It's still lying to some extent, I suppose, but I see a vast difference between the two. At the very least, the one is gratuitous, the other motivated by loyalty to one's views - however ill-conceived. I think the association between the adverb lying and the noun whore is what I find unacceptable - indeed, what set me off.
