Inverarity is not a Scottish village

I did not say that it cannot happen. I said that if you believe you can convince others, you are deluding yourself. At best, you can manage to help a person along a path s/he might have taken anyway. At worst, you can delude yourself on the meaning of a merely polite reaction from someone who doesn't care. And above all, debate is not primarily about trying to convince the other guy.
