Discussion on bookish (with bonus rant about Comcast, which is incidentally why I may not be responding to emails or comments as quickly as usual for the next week).
It's been fixed, but only because I assumed that anything I was told over the phone was bullshit and waited for a tech to come. (They wanted to cancel my appointment, telling me the problem was because of an "area-wide outage" that would take a week to fix. The tech laughed at that and said it was a cable outside that another tech had accidentally disconnected.)
So, basically, you could train your script-reciting moppets not to spout whatever random bullshit will get the customer off the line fastest. Of course that would require you to actually pay them enough that it's worthwhile to do their jobs with some degree of enthusiasm and competence. Which I'm sure is a decision made way above your level, so the short answer is, I don't think there's a damn thing you can do about it, Mr. Casem. But since you asked...
Yeah, seriously, every time I have ever called Comcast, I've found that whatever the "customer service" drone tells me is nonsensical and/or simply untrue and will immediately be followed by a sales pitch to upgrade my service.
