I predict that the car accident is somehow related to the Wizarding world/Alexandra's problems and that Brian will be suspicious. Things are going entirely too smoothly for her right now.
Amazing chapter, Brian and Alex do make a great couple if you think about it and Alex never really had any feelings for Payton. I wonder how long Brian has had feelings for Alex
I guess Bonnie was following Brian trying to find out where he was sneaking out to.
That's my guess on Bonnie also. Will it put Brian back into blaming Alexandra?
Spent the last week doing a semi-marathon reread of the first three books, there's so much I didn't remember, and now it's Killing me to wait for new chapters of this story.
I think Alex will go back to blaming herself rather. Pity. Brian/Alex would make a sweet couple indeed, though I don't see it happening soon. Alex clearly doesn't have romantic feelings for Brian(yet) and Brian is still too much of a nervous schoolboy to make much of an impression (the comparison with William was subtle, but apt). Still, my predictions for the next chapter -
a) Bonnie is going to pull through, and keep her mouth shut about following Brian that night. b) Alex will dump Payton/Payton will dump Alex after finding out about Brian. c) Alex and Brian will continue to be friends, but Alex will withdraw even more into herself. d) Dianna Grimm is finally going to make an appearance.
"But she utterly mistrusted the Wizard Justice Department and was loathe to cooperate with them." I have whinged B4 at Alex becoming TOO brattish. And here we go again. Over and over again, Grimms have proven themselves to be Reasonable Authority Figures (tm). Alex's situation justifies "But she mistrusted the Wizard Justice Department and was loathe to cooperate with them." One word, "utterly" ruins that sentence for me. TOO brattish.
So you set up even more grim dark doom (tm) and it's a relief when it is safe and silly and shippy, but then the sting in the tail, Bonnie in danger, just when we have happy thoughts and fireworks. You bastard!.
Od he Say: 1) Alex says screw the Ministry, she casts a spell, cures Bonnie in front of Human witnesses and takes whatever punishment the Ministry throws at her; 2) Alex gets Sister Pruett to cure Bonnie; 3) Bonnie dies, Brian hates Alex.
Brian says "YOU are lecturing ME about doing stupid stuff?" Glorious. It needed to be said.
"mistrusted"??? "shined"??? Whatever happened to "distrusted" and "shone"? What are you smoking, man? Can I have some?

Lilith Grimm has proven herself to be a Reasonable Authority Figure (tm). Diana Grimm...well, she's not a bad person IMO, but I don't blame Alex for not trusting her. And the WJD in general does seem rather...unsavory.
I agree. It doesn't matter if they are trying to protect Alex, or catch Abraham Thorn, with the way Grimms have treated Alex in the past, I perfectly understand why Alex wouldn't trust them.
"Distrust implies informed judgment, mistrust implies doubt and uncertainty. Both legitimate words."
And with this definition "Utterly" makes even less sense. "I distrust Bob." = based on Bob's previous behaviour, I guess Bob's next action will be evil with 80% probability and "utterly distrust" = 99% probability. It is a grammatically well-formed sentence, but it makes no sense in terms of Alex's previous interactions with her eldest sister.
Alex is fully justified to resent Lilith at 200%, but Trust is a different issue.
"I mistrust Charles." = I have limited information about Charles, so I am going to guess that Charles' next action will be evil with 45% probability. But what does "utterly distrust" mean? I am absolutely certain that Charles' next action will be evil with 50% probability; not 49, not 51, but exactly 50. That is a very specific level of uncertainty, Captain.
well we were told there would be another death in this book, its looking like its gonna be Bonnie, the way Archie said her condition was very serious sounded like he meant critical condition and the fact that Alex's mom thought Alex might want to go down to the hospital to see Bonnie made it seem like Alex might want to go down to say goodbye.
Anyone want to take bets on Brian being obliviated by the end of the book? Or the next chapter? As for Bonnie being a corpse, my guess is that's too early and obvious.
If Bonnie does die, I can see Archie trying to comfort Alex and assuming it's her first death, and Alex in her grief revealing a little bit more to him about her life (re:Max and the other deaths). She also left her broom out in the open, has Archie ever seen it before? With the way he's been more inquisitive lately, I can see him being let in the loop a little bit more sometime soon.

It is utterly shined
