I'm not impressed by Microsoft's Bing. Like Cuil and Swoogle and other efforts, it does not produce noticeably better results than Google, particularly when it comes to distinguishing between real people and fictional characters.

It is amusing how often I see fan fiction references pop up when I Google names and places, though. I've found it's a good idea to make sure you aren't accidentally naming one of your characters after, say, a convicted serial rapist or a French reality show celebrity. I'm also one of those people who occasionally Googles my real name, so I wonder how many Alexandra Quicks, Claudia Greens, and Thalia Kings there are out there doing the same, and saying, "WTF? How did I become a Harry Potter character?"

I never would have thought that there really was someone named Absalom Thorn, though.

What's really amusing are all those websites that use search engines to scrape info from anywhere and everywhere to market their "data."

One of these people is not like the others...

I thought that this was a real estate listing, at first, but it turns out that "Larkin Mills" is apparently a person who was previously employed at "Radicalist school at Sedona" and "Lawhorn Institute of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
