So I guess witches are the next big thing?

Here is a gorgeous new piece of fan art. Y'all do love Charlie, don't you?

So, I got about 1000 words written tonight. Alexandra has gotten into her next spot of trouble.

I mentioned a while ago that Alexandra did a bad, bad thing. What kind of trouble do you think Alexandra is going to get into? Here's a poll — guess what Alexandra will do in AQATWA!

(Hint: at least one of these things will actually happen.)

[Poll #1954935]

I'd say no on murder, though I think we got at least even odds of manslaughter and maybe an 80% chance of a righteous kill. I predict starting a war and toppling a government not 'til book 6. On wizard prison I'm going to predict that she doesn't get sent there, but rather breaks in.

First I need to know if this is the last AQ book that you plan to write. Is this going to be the big shebang, or will you leave it open for a sequel?

Oh no, I am still planning seven books total.

Okay, in that case, I vote for:
- breaking and entering
- assault govt officials
- run away
- violate statute of secrecy
- tamper with magic laws

... because hasn't she done all of those in every book?

Plus:

- drive a car without a license, because she's already messed with cars and it seems a boy-howdy thing to do
- commit murder, because I think you've been hinting at it quite a lot and I think you'll need a couple of books to work out the repercussions.

I decided against starting a war/toppling a government (I'd think the latter would certainly cause the former), although I was tempted, because I figure you don't want to stretch the war out over two books, and it makes more sense for her to start it at the end of the 6th book so you can deal with it during the course of the 7th book and have the grande finale resolving both the war and her personal journey. Like in the HP books.

I decided against her getting killed for the same reason, that I think it's too early in the series for that. I know you've also hinted at that, but I think if you do it, it will come in the last book. And it won't be permanent. :)

I also decided against her losing her virginity because I somehow like the symbolism of her being the leader of a movement or some kind of saviour or touchstone as a virgin. Although I can see how making her more involved with someone romantically would also be an attractive option story-wise, giving her more weak spots as well as more opportunities for betrayal. But I'm going with virgin!Alex for the time being.

When I thought about her losing her virginity, whoever that turns out to be, I would hate to be the guy. Bluntly, I think something bad is going to happen to whoever this guy turns out to be, maybe death, obvilation, or something new, inventive, and unpleasant.

And Brian is either going to be this guy or the one she ends up with.

Jeez, he might be really screwed and end up in a relationship with Alex...

I've been thinking about it, and I'll actually put a vote down for 'commit murder' ... or however you want to define the act of killing someone else, rightly or not. My reasoning is that Manu-whatever-his-name-is is an asshole.... but I don't think he's the final boss battle. This story goes much bigger than he is, and I think in order to pay proper respect to all of the other hydra-heads rolling around in the background, his needs lopping off, and soon. And that... seems like a step Alex will have to take and regret. Or maybe it will happen near her, or around her, if not directly from her hand, but I think. yes, this will be soon.

In other news, you could always file them serial numbers off now :)

err... yes? about a year ago... And only once, as it was being posted ... I.. I guess I don't really remember a lot of the details.. Um.. .. ... maybe I've put my foot in my mouth here? Sorry... this is why I generally don't comment on people's posts..... sorry.

Hey at least you'll be surprised all over again if you ever reread AQ

I went with tamper with the laws of magic. There was so much in the first book about doggerel verse and Alexandra pushing back against doing things the right way versus a way that works, that it would feel like a natural evolution for her to tamper with the laws of magic.

I chose "Assault government officials" (obvious), "Run away (again)" (obvious), and "Violate the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy" (she outright said in Dinetah she's not a fan of it). I almost went with "Temper with the laws of magic," but I figure that's probably in Book 7.

(I half-suspect it's actually "Get pregnant" just to screw with us.)

?!

You forgot the "all of the above" option. :P

The answer is either "start a war" or "topple a government". It was always going to end that way :P

I think I've been looking forward to that from the very first time she ran her head against the wall, and the wall gave. Maybe it's time, now. Crossing my fingers :)

My guess is that she will both drive a car without a license and assault a government official. Bonus prediction: that government official will be her own aunt.

Frankly, asking if Alex is going to assault a government official is like asking if the animorphs are going to turn into animals. Ditto for tampering with the laws of Magic. It's just what she does.

Getting knocked up seems like the most stupid thing Alexandra can do.

You weren't quite playing fair, were you? From what I can see, Alex did 2, 5, 7 (not by her choice - the Statute was shredded into little bits when she battled that dragon in the middle of Manhattan), 8, 9, possibly 11 (if breaking through the cracks in the world counts), and certainly 14. She also swindled a journalist and released two monsters and three murderers. Not a bad budget for a heroine who refuses to kill even her worst enemies.
